Ride On! Gillian's Funland Brings Back the Amusement Park ThrillsFor many of us, summer would not be complete without the smell of salt air, the feel of sand between our toes and the cool blast of ocean water. For kids, summer also calls for the bright lights of tall rides, a gallop on a carousel pony and the stomach-dropping joy of flying down a giant slide on a potato sack. Since 2009, Gillian’s Funland has been providing those amusement-park thrills for children in Sea Isle City. |

My Night at Gillian's Funland: A 12-Year Old's ViewI recently went to Gillian’s Funland in Sea Isle City. When I got there, I was psyched to hit the rides. The first thing that caught my eye was the Fun House. The Fun House is a great ride that I always like going on. I didn’t have to wait in any sort of line, and that’s a thumbs-up in my book! |

Tuckahoe Keeps It LocalNew Jersey has never been known as a hot spot for beer and wine production, but that is slowly changing. In recent years, state fees and laws governing small-scale breweries have eased, and more and more craft breweries have started to pop up in the Garden State. Most people know of Flying Fish Brewery from Cherry Hill, but this year Cape May County got its first taste of local brews when three teachers from Mainland High School and an architect opened Tuckahoe Brewing Co. in Ocean View. |

Funny, You Don't Look 100Stone Harbor’s celebrates its magical 100th year this summer, a milestone achievement of lifesaving, protection and growth that mirrored that of the borough. Although the lifeguard craft has evolved since Cleon Krause became the first watchdog for local beachgoers in 1912, its role hasn’t. Safety remains the name of the game. As beach tags replaced daily fees and as summer beach visitors dramatically increased, the guards became more seasoned to keep pace. |

The Gallo brothers borrowed $5,000 from Ernest’s mother-in-law, Teresa Franzia, and in 1933, following the repeal of Prohibition, they opened E.&J. Gallo Winery, in Modesto, Calif. In their first year they produced 177,000 gallons of wine and by their second year they made 440,000 gallons. |

BBQ Chicken: An American ClassicWith summer more than half over and many grilling sessions under my belt, I’ve realized that I have gotten into a monotony of burgers, dogs and steaks. It didn’t occur to me until the other day when my sister said, “Do you know what I haven’t had in a while? A good piece of grilled barbecue chicken.” Of course, how could I forget, BBQ chicken, a delicious summertime American classic. |
