Little Free Libraries: Book a Visit!

The Little Free Library on 12th Street in Avalon

Everyone loves a good summer read, and the Seven Mile Beach’s libraries are great places to get books, movies and more.

But if you’re just renting your place for the week, or can’t get your hands on a library card, the many Little Free Libraries on the island are the solution.

Little Free Library is an international organization dedicated to expanding book access to readers and want-to-be readers around the world. Anyone who wants to start a little library is able to register its location on littlefreelibrary.org to be included on its map, but many are unregistered and just out in the community for readers to enjoy. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of local book boxes in Stone Harbor and Avalon for all aspiring readers to enjoy.

Local residents were responsible for the boxes’ construction and upkeep during the busy summer season. The Girls Who Rock and Read, the acoustic duo of Lucy and Rose Marone based in Sea Isle City, just opened a Little Free Library on Landis Avenue between 67th and 68th streets.

Take a bike ride up to your nearest location to pick out a well-loved title to enjoy on your next beach day. Bring the little ones to choose their own books!

And the best part? The Little Free Libraries offer 24/7 book access, so you can find something any time of day or night, even if the Avalon Free Public Library and the Stone Harbor Library are closed.

Once you’re finished enjoying a title, return it to one of the Little Free Libraries so it can continue to circulate among the island’s fellow bookworms. Or, if you have books to donate, replace them with something new for other library patrons to enjoy.

Take part in this wonderful display of community and enjoy a book today!
