The Crowds Are Gone, But There’s More Fun in Store

Summer is a great time to be here on Seven Mile Beach, but it isn’t the only great time. As the days become shorter and we say goodbye to the crowds who come for the beaches, we enter a stretch of cool breezes, yellow leaves, and even more island fun.

The annual End-of-Summer Shop Hop takes over the streets of Avalon for a weekend full of amazing end-of-season sales Sept. 8-10. Indulge in some summer merchandise, home decor, and accessories, and stock up on some fall essentials. When it’s time for a break, stop by Bobby Dee’s Rock’n Chair Restaurant for a special Shop Hop menu featuring specialty cocktails.

The Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children will host its annual Barefoot Ball on Sept. 9 at the ICONA Windrift. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the home and its events during the camp season. Attendees will enjoy live music, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auction items and the presentation of the 2023 scholarship awards. To learn more about the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children, go to dillerblindhome.org.

Stone Harbor’s biggest event of the year comes back to 96th Street on Sept. 23. It’s the Savor September Wine, Beer, and Food Festival, of course, sponsored by the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Along with the food and liquid refreshments, enjoy live music and great fun. The Savor en Blanc dinner will be held the night before the festival, white attire only.

The Avalon Arts & Seafood Festival returns to Surfside Park on Oct. 7. Hosted by the Avalon Chamber of Commerce, the festival will feature vendors selling artwork, photography, artisan goods, food, and drinks. Attendees will also enjoy live music, activities for the family, and the Sound Advice Lounge streaming the day’s football games.

September and October aren’t the only months filled with fun events. Make sure to be here for Thanksgiving weekend, starting with the Festival of Trees in which participating businesses will display decorated holiday trees. The weekend also includes the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home Turkey Trot 5K Run and 1.5-Mile Walk, Festive Friday, Snowfest Saturday, Merchants Hospitality Night, Downtown Dash 5K Run, and the Christmas Parade starring the big man, Santa, himself.

The summer isn’t over yet! Here’s to the endless fun!
