Tips for beach safety resemble an endless library. No single source has every answer, but the information is massive. Officials ranging from the United States Lifesaving Association to local beach-patrol captains hammer home the safety theme, in print and on websites.

We all scream for it. Julius Caesar sent his servants to the mountains for snow to flavor with fruit juices. Marco Polo brought recipes for “cream ice” from the Far East back to Italy. But it was not until after the American Revolution that we Americans got on board.

Ah, the good old days. Every generation seems to refer to them as it grows old. Will the millennials, born from 1981 to 1996, or Generation Z, born after 1996, be saying the same thing years from now? Only time will tell.

I’ll tell you what, Stone Harbor has been bustling lately. The sun has been shining. The seagulls are laughing. Not that I like seagulls, but their laugh is a welcome sound signaling the coming of the best season at the beach.

I was trained right in this kitchen by our last two chefs. I always felt bad asking for food when I started out dishwashing and bussing, so I asked how to make my own. It started with chicken fingers and fries and went to working behind the line.

Summer nights are finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited! Whether you are sitting out by the fire pit, heading out to your favorite hot spot, or enjoying a casual date night, Coco Blu Boutique has the perfect outfit for you. It tends to get a little chilly at night by the water or if you are in an air-conditioned spot, so you should always have a great pair of white jeans on hand to throw on.

Now that summer is in full swing, it is the perfect time to enjoy happy hour with friends in Stone Harbor! Quahog’s Seafood Shack and Bar has it all, from New England-style seafood, South American-inspired dishes, seashore classics, and of course a variety of refreshing cocktails.

Summer is here and it is time to enjoy the shore as the pandemic wears down. If nothing else, the pandemic has taught us the importance of protecting ourselves, maintaining a healthy immune system, and eating right.

The more I discover the wines from Oregon, the more impressed I become with the entire wine-growing region. Many of the wineries use sustainable, natural, organic and biodynamic methods for growing and making their wines.

We wait all winter for the seasons to change so we can hit the town again. There is nothing like the feeling of getting ready to head out for a hot summer night! There are plenty of places to go to in Avalon and Stone Harbor, whether you are heading out for dinner or want to dance the night away.

One of the greatest things about summer is that all of my favorite authors release new books. Avid book readers have favorite authors, and we wait months looking forward to the release of their latest novels. The summer of 2021 is shaping up to be a great summer for reading.

Summer nights have finally arrived and there is plenty to do here on Seven Mile Beach. Whether you are strolling on 96th Street, heading out to dinner or hanging out at your favorite bar, you want to dress the part. Fortunately, The Spot has a store full of trendy and comfortable pieces to add to your wardrobe.

A look back at the July 4 holiday in Avalon and Stone Harbor. First, it’s a three-legged race on the beach at about 28th Street on July 4, 1959. You can see the Avalon Pier in the background. And in Stone Harbor, let’s go back 100 years … to July 4, 1921, when Stone Harbor hosted outdoor boxing matches.

When I was young, one of my favorite things about summer was all of the new books that would come out. I used to wait at the bookstore for the latest release on whatever series I happened to be reading. Things are different now, and kids would rather play on their electronics and visit social media than pick up a good book.
