It was a “great” opportunity that couldn’t be passed up – a great community, a great location, and a space with a lot of potential. So says Adam Clark, one of four owners opening the Surfside Rooftop Grill on the second level overlooking Stone Harbor’s iconic 96th Street.

His fellow owners are Dr. Jeffrey and Theresa Rihn, and Jason Unger, also a restaurant partner with Clark in The Dog House and The Dog House Café, in Fort Myers, Fla. While Clark and Unger bring restaurant experience, the Rihn family brings a familiarity with Stone Harbor, having spent many summers here.

Surfside Rooftop Grill will serve primarily classic American cuisine with a focus on fresh local seafood. A highlight will be the custom seafood display and oyster bar featuring Jersey oysters as well as some West Coast treats and Northeast cold-water varieties. Surfside also offers classic burgers, juicy steaks, and featured specials each day, with a laid-back beach vibe in a refined atmosphere.

Be sure to check the website for daily specials, a live entertainment schedule, featured oysters, and more exciting highlights. Surfside Rooftop Grill is open daily from 11am to 9pm.

For those who miss the nostalgia of the historic Paper Peddler, Beach Bound Books has arrived!

Owner Deanna Wilson has spent more than 10 years in Stone Harbor with her first book shop. She decided to branch out and bring a much-needed book shop back to Avalon.

Before she went into the book business, Deanna and her children had spent many hours browsing the titles in the Atlantic Book Shop in Stone Harbor, having a business in the same courtyard. When Atlantic Book Shop announced its closure in 2011, the Wilson family took a step into the magical world of books.

“I truly believe children need to touch and feel to enhance their learning, and giving in to the trend of ebooks just wasn’t cutting it for me,” Wilson says. “It’s truly magical to walk into a bookstore, and it is even more heartwarming for myself to bring joy to many in our new venue.”

Beach Bound Books, open daily at 10am, offers a wide variety to appeal to all genres, with everything from best-sellers to an expansive children’s section, plus Melissa & Doug toys! Special orders are welcome and can ship within three days, so your next best read is in your hands just in time for your week at the beach. And with a huge selection of releases coming out this summer, this is the place to find your perfect beach read.

After 26 years as chief operations officer of Community Quest, Inc., and a long pandemic, Elizabeth Denham decided to live by her motto “Embrace Life” and took the leap into shop ownership. Denham recently opened Enchanted Boutique on 96th Street, having chosen Stone Harbor for its unique, hometown feel featuring independent and family-owned businesses. Enchanted Boutique’s inviting, bright pink awning welcomes women shoppers seeking style and sophistication in their wardrobe.

“I felt there are not enough shopping options for women over 30,” Denham says. “As we age, our figures change, but our desire for great style doesn’t. So, my store is geared for the 30-plus shopper, and connecting with customers and creating a personal style for each of them.”

The boutique reflects Denham’s passions in life beyond clothing to include a variety of female entrepreneurs including commissioned jewelry, art, and accessories from local artisans. Enchanted Boutique also features an extension to the second floor – Lady Lanell’s Loft – displaying local artist Lanell Fagan’s custom art, handmade accessories, and more.

Enchanted Boutique is open daily starting at 10am, and offers private shopping appointments and concierge shopping for a customized approach to style. Be sure to stop by and browse the unique items and clothing, celebrating the accomplishments of local females!
