APRIL 1

Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweep
9am-12:30pm

Volunteers are needed to help clean up trash and debris from the beaches in Avalon and Stone Harbor during the Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweep. This rain-or-shine event helps get our beaches ready for the season. Those wishing to participate in Avalon will meet at the 80th Street beach; those participating in Stone Harbor will meet at the 95th Street beach.

Stone Harbor Easter Egg Hunt
Noon, Stone Harbor Fire Station
96th and Second Avenue

Get ready to round up some Easter eggs during the Stone Harbor Fire Department’s annual Easter egg hunt. Bring the whole family for the egg hunt, special prizes, and of course, photos with the Easter Bunny.

Afternoon Tea

“Life in a Salt Marsh”

APRIL 8

AHLOA Community Connections
8:30am-11am, Avalon Community Hall

Join community organizations and gear up for the season during Avalon Home and Land Owners Association’s Community Connections event. Information tables will open at 8:30am and guest speaker presentations will start at 9. This year’s meeting features presentations from Ronnie Town of Atlantic City Electric, Ken Koches of Middlesex Water, and Peter Druckenmiller of South Jersey Gas. Giveaways and light refreshments will be offered.

Harbor Hop 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk or Run
8-11am, 120 97th St.

Make like a bunny and join in on the first annual Harbor Hop, presented by the Borough of Stone Harbor. This family-friendly 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk or Run celebrates the arrival of spring at the Jersey Shore. Awards will be presented in the 5K & 1M to the top three males and females overall and in age groups.

Avalon Easter Egg Scramble
10am Sharp, 8th-12th Street Fields

Find as many colorful eggs as you can during the Avalon Easter Egg Scramble! The event starts at 10am sharp and is broken into age categories of ages 1-4, 5-6, and 7-10. Stick around and take photos with the Easter Bunny afterward. Note that this event is canceled in the event of rain.

Polish your resumé and make plans to apply for your summer job during the Stone Harbor Job Fair. Businesses on 96th Street will display signs inviting you to stop in and apply for full- or part-time positions. “Hidden History of Maritime New Jersey”
3pm, 39th Street Tennis Building

Did you know an estimated 3,000 shipwrecks lie off the coast of New Jersey? In this lecture sponsored by the Avalon History Center, learn about our state’s hidden maritime history from Stephen D. Nagiewicz, ship’s master, captain, adjunct professor, diver, and author. In his lecture, Nagiewicz will discuss curious tales of storms, heroism, and oddities from New Jersey’s maritime past, as shared in his 2016 book, “Hidden History of Maritime New Jersey.”

Dune Grass Planting
8:30am, Avalon Community Hall

Join the Borough of Avalon for its annual spring Dune Grass Planting. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate. Training and supply distribution will begin at Community Hall at 8:30am before volunteers head out to their assigned locations. Volunteers will be provided with a bag lunch. Arbor Day Celebration
10:30am, 71st Street & Dune Drive

Celebrate Arbor Day with the Avalon Garden Club at its annual tree-planting ceremony. This year’s tree will be a white oak planted on the island at 71st Street & Dune Drive. A representative from the Avalon Environmental Commission will be the guest speaker. In the case of inclement weather, the event will move inside to the 39th Street Tennis Building.

Candy Making Demo & Tasting

Learn how to make pretzel bark and chocolate truffles with Lisa Botto of Bumblebee Sweets. Attendees will also have the chance to taste raspberry milk chocolate truffle, bittersweet dark chocolate truffle, and pretzel bark. Registration is required. Play With Jack Fashion Show

Spend the afternoon at the Play With Jack Fashion Show featuring trendy fashions from Coco Blu and Gingy’s, lunch, refreshments, and an auction. Proceeds from this event go to the Play With Jack Foundation, created in memory of Jack Cremin and offering financial assistance to those battling life-threatening illnesses.

Shorebird and Horseshoe Crab Celebration Days
The Wetlands Institute

Join The Wetlands Institute for the 10th annual celebration of the shorebird migration and horseshoe crab spawning season. Proceeds help support the institute’s critical research, conservation, and education programs focused on shorebirds and horseshoe crabs. Visitors will enjoy activities that are focused on conservation, including horseshoe crab rescue walks, shorebird viewings, horseshoe crab workshops and presentations, birding and wildlife cruises, shorebird workshops, and more.
