Letter From the Editor

Dear Readers:

Spring is finally here, and it feels so good to welcome you back for another amazing season on the Seven Mile Beach. We’ve got another informative and entertaining issue of Seven Mile Times for you as we enter our 33rd year of publication.

With the start of the 2024 baseball season here, we’ll look back in time, 75 summers to be exact, when the Boston Red Sox sent some of their players, including a three-time All-Star, right here to the Seven Mile Beach for rehab.

The Avalon Environmental Commission and the Avalon Garden Club are experimenting with a program in which indigenous plantings are being introduced to a traffic island on Dune Drive. The program could result in a financial savings to the Borough along with helping to preserve one of our most precious natural resources. We’ll tell you all about it.

Have you heard about the possibility of digital beach tags? Do you have any questions about it? We did, so we asked Scott Cronick to tell us all about it. Delaney Crawford will tell us the fascinating story about a Stone Harbor mom who is running around the world. And our island lost a true treasure last summer with the passing of Avalon’s Wilda Richardson. Marybeth Hagan will look back on a life well-lived here on the Seven Mile Beach. Plus, Fred Dunbar will bring Common Sense to your world of finance.

Plus, there are all our features that you’ve come to expect in each issue such as Beach Reads and Smilestones, and please be sure to check our Events at a Glance, so you know what’s happening in and around town. You don’t want to miss any of the great events that are planned.

As always, thanks for making Seven Mile Times part of your life here at the Shore. We understand that your time is valuable, and we appreciate that you have made us the most popular publication on Seven Mile Beach. Thanks, as well, for your continued support of our local businesses and restaurants – they’re all focused on making your time here memorable.

Believe it or not, it’s now less than 10 weeks until Memorial Day weekend, and I can’t wait! Enjoy time with your family and the holidays.

Sincerely,

Monica Coskey
