In the late afternoon of Monday, July 8, the sun shined down on the wharf parking lot on 96th street in Stone Harbor. One by one, families of children with creative costumes gathered to register for the Al Cunard Baby Parade. Stone Harbor is a town of tradition, and tradition shined through as this year’s Baby Parade marked the 57th year of the annual event. All the floats, wagons, and themed strollers waited patiently as the judges reviewed the participants and voted at 6pm.

After judging, it was time for the babies to strut their stuff.

Stone Harbor Mayor Judy Davies-Dunhour and Cham-ber of Commerce President Maggie Day led the parade, followed by Miss Cape May County Amy Phillips and Miss Cape Resort Abby Waid. Next came the main event, the participating families of this year’s Baby Parade!

Spectators gathered along 96th Street, the center of Stone Harbor’s business district, as the families on parade pranced one after another until reaching the Stone Harbor Firehouse on the corner of Second Avenue. Once the end of the procession reached the firehouse, awards were announced and distributed.

The award winners:

Best Single Float: 1, Kevin Kohlman as King Tut; 2, JR. VanThuyne; 3. The Urey family as Freedom at Fred’s Tavern.

Best Group Float: 1, Eliza and Annie Werner as Peach Pit; 2, The Marriottini family as the Fudgy Wudgy Cart.

Most Creative: Deklan Sullivan as Shipwrecked at Stone Harbor Point.

Most Fancy: Molly Kohlman as Rapunzel.

The Essence of Stone Harbor: Brielle Bayshore as Fun in the Sun.

The Mayor’s Award: Kingley Hoffer as the Masters Caddie.

The Nesting Award: Mickie Greenwald as Minnie’s Boutique.

The 2019 Baby Parade upheld the event’s reputation as one of the most heartwarming and adorable evenings of summer for vacationers and local residents with the littlest of beach-goers.
