Rose Adelizzi-Bostard of The Preppy Palm

The Preppy Palm

2533 Dune Drive, Avalon | 609-368-7300 | thepreppypalm.com

When Rose Adelizzi-Bostard began what eventually became The Preppy Palm, it was a way for her to put her creativity out there.

“I have always made items,” she says. “I sew. I make jewelry. So, my first store was an outlet for me to sell the items I made.”

Now, The Preppy Palm stocks 3,000 square feet worth of all things preppy at the shore, with a special focus this summer on golf, tennis, and pickleball apparel, as well as a line of custom designed sweaters to support your favorite local sports teams and universities. Adelizzi-Bostard consistently replenishes the store with fresh apparel for women and kids, plus home décor, gifts, jewelry, and accessories.

Angela DiMuzio of Stephanie’s of Stone Harbor

Stephanie’s of Stone Harbor

9720 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor | 609-368-0600 | fineartbysd.com

Stephanie’s of Stone Harbor has an almost 40-year history of serving Cape May County with a wide selection of unique clothing, accessories, and home items — and it’s a family affair.

When Angela and Stephen DiMuzio opened the first Stephanie’s in Cape May, it specialized in antiques and music. Today, their daughter and store namesake Stephanie is a part of the business, working with Angela in their remaining Stone Harbor location, which carries a variety of hats, jewelry, accessories, and Stephanie’s original, hand-painted artwork. Through all the changes, the DiMuzios have built and maintained a unique connection with their customers.

“Regardless of how difficult things were, our customers have supported us,” Stephen DiMuzio says. “And we are forever grateful for their support — without it we would have not lasted 39 years.”

Becky Murphy of Lilly Pulitzer

Lilly Pulitzer

2009 Dune Drive, Avalon | 609-967-8083 | lillypulitzer.com

The Lilly Pulitzer prints are as easily recognizable as the shores of your favorite beach town — making Seven Mile Beach a prime location for a Lilly Pulitzer branch since its Avalon opening in 2017. With its bright, summery patterns on everything from dresses to planners, the Lilly brand provides a memorable pop of color and sunshine to any outfit. And with new prints cycling through the store every few weeks, there’s always something new and fashionable to add to your outfit cycle for the summer.

“We are a small store that is seasonal,” says Becky Murphy, a Lilly Pulitzer team member in Avalon. “But we are packed with tons of Lilly fashion to enhance any vacationing girl in Avalon’s wardrobe.”

John Bell and Jacquie Ewing of Armadillo

Armadillo, LTD

2761 Dune Drive, Avalon | 609-368-3000

Jacquie Ewing and John Bell opened Armadillo, LTD in 2003 to fill a void in Avalon’s vibrant small business scene: a unique, upscale gift venue for everyone, especially those who love to find unusual items.

Today, the store is open year-round and carries beautifully crafted, functional items from more than 80 philanthropically oriented, passionate brands — including new-for-this-summer martini glasses and stitched leather wine carriers and trays. Ewing prides herself on both knowledge about her products and her customer service.

“We want our shoppers to have a great retail experience,” Ewing says. “We call it retail therapy that you cannot get shopping on the internet. You can only get that close and personal experience shopping a small business.”

Debra Klebanoff of Annabelle

Annabelle

2174 Dune Drive, Avalon | 609-368-1133

After semi-retiring from her Philadelphia law practice, Debra Klebanoff spent more time here in Avalon and got to thinking about something she’d always been drawn to: a women’s clothing boutique reflecting all the things she loved most in a store.

“A relaxed, no pressure, enjoyable atmosphere with clothing that was chic and stylish, but also reasonably priced,” Klebanoff says. “The stars aligned, and the next thing I knew, my clothing boutique was born.”

That was 11 years ago, and Annabelle has been a feature on the Dune Drive shopping scene since. Amid the uniquely curated selection of beachwear, formal wear, and everything in between, Klebanoff hopes her customers always find what they’re looking for in her store, even if it’s something unexpected!

Angela Marsh of Global Pursuit

Global Pursuit

262 96th Street, Stone Harbor | 609-368-5556 | shopglobalpursuit.com

After spending her summers working across Stone Harbor growing up, Angela Marsh followed through on her desire to own a seasonal business here on Seven Mile Beach when she bought Global Pursuit in 2010. Since then, she’s maintained the values of sustainability and green awareness that she had always admired about the store, purposefully seeking out brands that use recycled materials and prioritize the environment.

That commitment includes new brands like Marine Layer, which produces comfy, casual clothing from sustainable fabrics. Marsh also stocks footwear favorites like On Running, Hey Dudes, and Birkenstock alongside staple brands like Vineyard Vines, Peter Millar, and Patagonia.

“Our tagline has always been ‘Feel good about looking great,’” Marsh says. “And that is what we want our audience to experience in the shop.”

Kathleen Wierzbicki and Lizanne Tracy of Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily

268 21st Street, Avalon | 609-967-4300

Since its opening in 1999, Tiger Lily has aimed to be the place to go in Avalon for elevated casual apparel — and the place for an enjoyable shopping experience for everyone.

“We style the store with the idea that families vacation together, and part of that vacation experience is shopping,” says Kathleen Wierzbicki, who co-owns the store with Lizanne Tracy. “We strive to offer brands that are nongenerational and can be worn by all.”

One new brand that has Tracy and Wierzbicki excited this summer is Varley, a London/LA-based line that emphasizes comfort as much as it does fashion — the perfect complement for Tiger Lily’s coastal casual style. When it comes to effortlessly chic classics, sunshine-ready sundresses, or colorful accessories, Tiger Lily is a must visit.

Colette Brogan of She Be Surfin’

She Be Surfin’

2516 Dune Drive, Avalon | 609-967-3110
221 96th Street, Stone Harbor | 609-368-3682
shebesurfin.com

Colette Brogan knew that most surf shops stocked a very small section for women and girls who wanted to surf. She wanted to change that, and in 2005, She Be Surfin’ was born.

“I saw a need for a women’s-specific surf shop,” Brogan says. “My goal was to create a comfortable and friendly shopping environment where everyone felt welcome.”

Since then, She Be Surfin’ has become a force for women’s surf wear — especially for young women — at both their Avalon and Stone Harbor locations, carrying brands like Roxy, O’Neill, Rip Curl, Free People, HYFVE, and Blue Blush. And this summer, on top of daily or weekly surfboard rentals, Brogan has also brought back She Be Surfin’s daily private surf lessons!

Colette Brogan of Wave One

Wave One

225 96th Street, Stone Harbor | 609-368-0050 | waveonestoneharbor.com

Co-owned by Peter Oppenheimer and Colette Brogan, Wave One is the premier destination in Stone Harbor for name-brand athletic wear printed with the names of your favorite beach towns. The store offers Avalon and Stone Harbor sweatshirts, hoodies, tees, Dri-FIT apparel, new-this-year women’s sweaters, and more from brands like Nike and Under Armour.

All that is alongside a collection of sandals, flip-flops, and beach-appropriate athletic gear (including just-stocked pickleball rackets!) for the whole family.

“Pete’s goal was to carry high-quality sweatshirts and tees with an athletic twist,” says Brogan, who became a partner at the store in 2006. “We offer merchandise for all ages — we strive to carry high-quality products and hope that our customers will love them!”

Jean and Betsy Tremblay of Gingy’s

Gingy’s

9718 Third Avenue, Stone Harbor | 609-961-3057 | gingys.com

At the strong encouragement of her customers at the original Gingy’s location in Malvern, Pa., owner Jean Tremblay opened her Stone Harbor store more than 10 years ago. The store sells a variety of women’s clothing and accessories, from Cabana Life swimwear to CK Bradley and Flora B formal wear — and now Jean’s daughter, Betsy, runs things right alongside her mother.

“Since we are a mother-daughter team, we like to appeal to mothers and daughters,” Betsy says. “We like to have a little something for everyone — no one leaves empty-handed!”

Unique to Gingy’s is its in-house clothing label, which features custom artist-designed pattern prints, as well as a more recent line: The Fennerton Collection by Gingy. New patterns and designs from both lines are in stores this summer!

Maria Delany of Louella

Louella

2819 Dune Drive, Avalon | 609-830-3275 | louellastyle.com

Louella’s Avalon location came to be after customer demand out of owner Maria Delany’s flagship location in Wayne, Pa. Her resort chic vibe was — and still is — a perfect match for the coastal island vibe here on Seven Mile Beach.

“We carry a carefully curated collection of women’s clothing, jewelry, accessories, and gifts,” Delany says. “Lots of dresses, cute tops, and elevated basics to complete your wardrobe. We look forward to styling our clients from head to toe.”

After four years in Avalon, Delany continues to style her store for women 18 to 80, with brands like La Mer Luxe, Wooden Ships, Bindu, and Spartina 449 always on the rack — and this summer, custom “Avalon” and “Go Birds” intarsia knit sweaters.

Cara Jones of Here Comes the Sun

Here Comes the Sun

2101 Ocean Drive, Avalon | 609-961-3258 | herecomesthesunavalon.com

Cara Jones was inspired to open her own retail brand by her experience representing designers at trunk shows and vacationing right here in Avalon. In 2021, Here Comes the Sun was born.

“I call my store a beach lifestyle boutique as I carry the clothing and accessories that women wear to be comfortable and fashionable at the beach,” says Jones — who, yes, is a Beatles fan. “I represent lines that appeal to all ages, mothers and daughters alike!”

Jones stocks a mix of lounge, casual, swim, and special occasion apparel, represented by brands like Farm Rio, Bandanna, Melissa Odabash, and Solid and Striped, alongside a newly expanded selection of Dolce Vita and Youyou shoes — everything you need to be stylish during those hot, sunny days at the shore!
