AVALON BOAT PARADE DOESN’T DISAPPOINT

Dozens of boats filled with festive folks lined up in the bay at the Avalon Yacht Club at 2:45pm on the Fourth of July for the annual Avalon Boat Parade. The theme was simple and fitting: patriotic. Thus, the vessels and the people they were carrying were decked out in Americana.

But that is not all. Many people took part in some aquatic fun as they filled water toys with water from the bay and blasted it toward other parade goers. On the island, people lined the ends of streets at the docks to see the festive boats drift on by into the sunny Independence Day afternoon. Smiles lit up faces, and laughs rang out into the marsh as the parade was another huge success this year.

SEVEN MILE KYLE

You never know who you’ll run into on the Seven Mile Beach. Just 24 hours after hitting three consecutive home runs in the first-ever “swing off” to decide the MLB All-Star Game, The Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber, who earned Philadelphia’s first All-Star MVP since Johnny Callison in 1964, packed up his family and headed to Seven Mile Beach for some much-deserved R&R. Where better to go? Kyle, who is not only one of baseball’s most talented players but also one of the classiest guys in all of sports, seemed to be everywhere during his two days on the island. Taking selfies, signing autographs, and shaking more hands than one person could possibly handle — all with a big smile and thanking everyone for being fans. Among those lucky enough to get their photo with Philadelphia’s newest favorite athlete were several Avalon lifeguardsl — on the beach — where else? Along with the staff at The Watering Hull in Stone Harbor. Thanks to John Middleton for bringing Philadelphia another great one.

STONE HARBOR, AVALON BEACHES TOP LISTS

Stone Harbor’s 96th Street beach has the clearest water at the Jersey Shore, according to onlyinourstate.com. While Seven Mile Beach may not boast Caribbean blue waters, we take pride in having the clearest waters along the Jersey Shore, along with some of the cleanest beaches.

Making the website’s list of cleanest beaches in the state are Avalon’s at 40th Street, Sea Isle City’s at 40th Street, Upper Township’s at Webster Road, Wildwood Crest’s at Orchid, Margate’s at Washington, and Point Pleasant Beach. Cape May County and the Seven Mile Beach are finally receiving the recognition they deserve!
