History Center Presents Rescuing the Last Diving Horse

  • Avalon Tennis Building Avalon, NJ (map)

Avalon Tennis Building, avalonfreelibrary.org
Starting in the late 1800s and lasting until 1978, a spectacle began where horses and their riders would “dive” at the far end of Atlantic City’s Steel Pier into a pool, when the site was known as “The Showplace of the Nation.” Learn about the people and animals involved, and the act’s vibrant history. This discussion will be presented by Cynthia Branigan, who rescued and cared for the last diving horse.
