Restaurant Profile: Moran's Dockside

Jim Moran

Jim and Helene Moran opened Moran’s Dockside deli, bait and tackle shop in 1988 when they moved into the Avalon Sport Fishing Center building.

Jim has had Avalon sand in his shoes since 1961, so the location for their business was a no-brainer. The Moran family had been involved in other eateries in Avalon before opening their own, such as Fishin’ Pier Grille and Avalon Seafood. It was a year after they opened Moran’s Courtside Deli on 8th Street that they made the move to their current location.

Their mission then remains the same now: to have great products, and great service, at a great price. Helene notes that they offer “premium meats and cheese” as well as “fresh rolls delivered daily along with pastries and bagels.”

What makes Moran’s Dockside so special isn’t just the beautiful view of Cedar Island; it’s that it offers more than your average tackle shop and/or deli: early-morning breakfast, amazing hoagies and sandwiches, bait and tackle, and even kayak rentals. It also has become a go-to for tide tables.

As this family business enters its 36th season, make sure you get to experience all this hidden gem on the bay has to offer. Moran’s Dockside is open daily from 6:30am to 5pm.
