Fourth of July Activities
Avalon
The festivities kick off on Friday, July 4 with a Fourth of July Celebration Boat Parade through Avalon’s back bays. Find a bayside spot and take in the spectacular sight of boats adorned with patriotic decorations as they parade by. The Boat Parade will start 3pm at Avalon Yacht Club, head east through Cornell Harbor; then south along Third Avenue Harbor, passing Avalon Sports Fishing Center; then west along Pennsylvania Harbor, passing Avalon Anchorage Marina to the south and entering Princeton Harbor heading east down one side; then turning around and heading west down the other side, and ending once you return into the Intracoastal Waterway. Participating boats need to arrive no later than 2:45pm to line up and must follow the Avalon Fire Department vessel. No registration necessary.
Also on July 4, there will be live outdoor music concert at Surfside Park from 7-8:30pm featuring American Soul. Enjoy a festive evening with the patriotic sounds of American Soul, perfect for celebrating Independence Day!
The fireworks will begin at approximately 8:45pm off the 30th Street beach.
Stone Harbor
The annual Fourth of July celebration at Stone Harbor Recreation is jam-packed with fun activities! Unless otherwise noted, the following activities will be held at the Stone Harbor Recreation Athletic field on 82nd Street, and registration will take place at the Recreation Center, as well.
Sand Sculpting Contest: 9-11:30am (82nd Street beach); registration 9-10am, judging at 11:30am. Age groups: 2-8, 9-15, 16 and up, family or group. Registration required.
Hoy’s 5 & 10 Candy Scramble: 10am (Bring your own bag!).
Foot Races: 10:15am, males & females, ages 7 and up.
Phillies Home Run Derby: 10:30am, ages 7-12 (males & females), registration required.
Slow Bike Races: approximately 10:45am, males & females, age groups 7 and up.
The Decorated Bike Contest will begin immediately after Slow Bike Races. Decorate your bikes, tricycles, wagons, strollers, and wheelchairs, to join in a beloved tradition. Age group: up to 18 years old. Judging will be held in the parking lot next to the softball field on Second Avenue & 80th Street at 11:30am. The parade begins at approximately 11:45am. Contestants will walk south on Second Avenue to 83rd Street, east on 83rd to First Avenue, and return to the field for awards. Registration required.
The Pre-Fireworks Celebration will also take place on the recreation fields at 81st and Second Avenue, beginning at 8pm with the Jim Bannach and the BLT Orchestra. Fireworks will begin at dusk (approximately 9:15) off the 81st Street beach.
