Stone Harbor Beach Opening Ceremony, 10am, 95th Street beach

Join Stone Harbor for the official opening of the beach for the summer season, starting with the second annual Color Run. The course for the non-timed event is open to all ages and goes from 82nd Street to 95th Street. Following the run, Mayor Judith Davies-Dunhour and the Beach Patrol Captain Sandy Bosacco will host the beach-opening ceremony.

The Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children invites you to celebrate its 50th camp season in 2022 at the Community Open House on Saturday, May 28. Turtle Trot 5K Race/2-Mile Walk, 8am, 96th Street & First Avenue

Start your Sunday with a family-fun run/walk through Stone Harbor. Register for the 21st edition of this annual tradition and kick off the day with a healthy start to support a great cause. Proceeds go to The Wetlands Institute’s Diamondback Terrapin Conservation Program.

Avalon Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, 9am, Dune Drive, 32nd Street to Veterans Plaza

Join the Borough of Avalon and American Legion Post 331 for the annual Memorial Day parade on Dune Drive from 32nd Street north to Veterans Plaza. U.S. Air Force Command Chief Master Sergeant (ret.) Michael R. Francis will be the guest of honor at the ceremony and will lead the parade with Mayor Martin Pagliughi and a number of civic organizations.

Stone Harbor Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, Noon, Third Avenue, St. Paul Church to Women’s Civic Club Building

Following Avalon’s parade, American Legion Post 331 will move to Stone Harbor for a noon parade starting at St. Paul Church and proceeding to the parking lot at the Stone Harbor Women’s Civic Club, where a ceremony led by keynote speaker Command Chief Michael R. Francis will take place.

American Legion Post 331 Memorial Day Ceremony & Open House, 1pm, 11617 Second Ave.

Following Stone Harbor’s ceremony, members will return to the Legion building for a ceremony led by Stone Harbor Mayor Judith Davies-Dunhour. Following the ceremony, members will host the annual open house, including guided tours of the Tatham Life Saving Station.

Entries for Avalon Historical Society Photo Contest

Entries for this annual contest will be accepted through May 31. They can be dropped off at the Avalon History Center, or mailed to 215 39th St., Avalon, NJ 08202. Judging will begin the first week of June, and winning entries will be on display through the end of June.

This indoor slide program and question-and-answer session will be a perfect introduction to the outdoor Avalon Pollinator Garden lecture series. Pat Sutton, a longtime working naturalist and wildlife habitat/conservation gardening educator, will cover the basic “how-tos” for creating a pollinator-friendly garden and yard that will attract and benefit butterflies, moths, bees, hummingbirds, and more. This event is sponsored by the Avalon Environmental Commission and the Avalon Free Public Library.

Avalon Garden Club 38th Annual Flower Show, 10am-4pm, Avalon Community Hall

Join the Avalon Garden Club for this beautiful annual display of flowers and arrangements. This year’s theme, “Island Paradise,” will feature a people’s choice opportunity: Attendees will vote for their favorite exhibit in each class with pennies supplied by the Garden Club. All children will be given a bag of pennies for voting from 10am-2pm, followed by the award ceremony at 3pm.

All About Pollinators, 9:30am, Armacost Park, 71st Street and Ocean Drive

With the Avalon Pollinator Garden in Armacost Park as the backdrop, Pat Sutton will discuss pollinators and the crucial role they play.
