Letter from the Editor
Welcome to Summer on the Seven Mile Beach!
As Memorial Day weekend approaches, we are thrilled to kick off another season of sunshine, celebrations, and stories on the island we all love.
In this issue, we begin by honoring the meaning behind the holiday with previews of Avalon and Stone Harbor’s Memorial Day services on page 16 – solemn and heartfelt tributes to the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Looking ahead, Events at a Glance – our seasonal calendar of local happenings – starts on page 22, including the exciting lineup of Spring Into Summer events. Whether you’re a year-round resident or a weekend visitor, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
We’re proud to feature stories that reflect the spirit and character of our community. On page 30, don’t miss our conversation with Union League CEO Jeffrey McFadden as he shares what’s next for the Whitebrier property. On page 32, we spotlight the remarkable bravery of Stephen Ludlam, a local teen whose heroism during World War 2 still resonates today. Turn to page 46 for Every Day is Saturday, a look at life after retirement for Marty and Lynda Pagliughi, and on page 52, we bid a fond farewell to longtime educator Aldo Palmieri. Page 56 brings a bold burst of creativity with sculptor David Wight’s captivating glass waves. Our Meet the Chefs profiles start on page 75, and we wrap up with a special salute to the Class of 2025 on page 128 – congratulations to all our local graduates!
Seven Mile Times remains a free publication thanks to the continued support of our incredible advertisers. Please show your appreciation by supporting these local businesses. And to our readers – thank you for making us a part of your summer.
Here’s to warm breezes, ice cream nights, and memories waiting to be made.
See you on the beach,
