Memorial Day Events
Avalon
American Legion Post 331 (Stone Harbor/Avalon) and the Borough of Avalon will present a Memorial Day parade and ceremony on Monday, May 26. The parade begins 9am at 32nd Street and Dune Drive in Avalon and proceeds north to Veterans Plaza, located at 20th Street and Dune Drive. Many of Avalon’s volunteer organizations and Borough officials will participate.
Avalon is honored to host this year’s guest speaker, retired U.S. Marine Sgt. William Neill, who currently serves as the Navy National Defense Cadet Corps at Middle Township High School in Cape May Court House. He was motivated to join the Marine Corps following the attack on America on Sept. 11, 2001. He was eventually assigned to the position of Units Color Sergeant performing change of command ceremonies and has performed more than 500 funeral details honoring fallen Marines.
Stone Harbor
All are welcome to attend and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, during ceremonies and parades on Monday, May 26. The Stone Harbor Fire Department will gather at Freedom Park, adjacent to the Firehouse on 96th Street, at 10am for its annual Memorial Service for Fallen Heroes.
Presented by American Legion Post 331, the annual Memorial Day Parade steps off at 11am and will proceed down 96th Street and head toward the Women’s Civic Club for the ceremony at approximately 11:30am.
Following the parade and ceremony at 12:30pm, all are welcome to attend an open house back at Post 331, located at 11617 Second Ave. The open house will include guided tours of the building and its museums and free refreshments for the public.
