Memorial Day Events
Avalon
Residents and visitors are invited to attend the Avalon Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, presented by the American Legion Post 331 (Stone Harbor/Avalon) and the Borough on Monday, May 25. The parade begins at 9am. It will step off at 32nd Street and Dune Drive and proceed north on Dune to Veterans Plaza at 20th Street. Many of Avalon’s volunteer organizations, elected officials, and Borough departments will participate.
Avalon is honored to host this year’s guest speaker, Tom LaRosa, a Marine Combat Infantry veteran who was awarded two bronze stars and retired as a Marine sergeant in 1969. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be canceled and the ceremony will move to the Avalon Community Hall, located at 3001 Avalon Ave.
Stone Harbor
All are welcome to attend Stone Harbor’s Memorial Day ceremony and parade on May 25 to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The Stone Harbor Fire Department will host its annual Memorial Service for Fallen Heroes at 10am at Freedom Park, adjacent to the Firehouse on 96th Street.
Presented by the American Legion Post 331, the Stone Harbor Memorial Day Parade begins at 11am. The parade begins at 100th Street and Third Avenue, turns north to 96th Street, then heads east to the Women’s Civic Club, located at 96th Street & the Beach. The Memorial Day Ceremony takes place at the Women’s Civic Club at approximately 11:30am.
Following the parade and ceremony, all are welcome to attend an open house at American Legion Post 331, located at 11617 Second Ave. The open house includes guided tours of the building and its museums, and complimentary refreshments for the public.
