The Jersey Shore has inspired countless memories, so it’s no surprise that it’s becoming the backdrop for an increasing number of novels. From Avalon and Stone Harbor to Sea Isle City and Wildwood, these stories capture the charm, nostalgia, and unique character of the towns we love. What makes many of them even more special is that the authors have personal ties to the area, whether they grew up here, spent summers here, or have long vacationed along these beaches. That familiarity shines through in their writing, making the settings feel authentic and recognizable. If you’re looking for your next beach read, here are a few Jersey Shore-inspired books I especially enjoyed.
“The Shallows of Avalon” by Erica M. Reilly
A decade ago, six young actors became household names as the cast of “The Shallows,” a wildly successful teen television series filmed in Avalon, which doubled as the fictional town of Duffy Beach, Calif. At the height of its popularity, the show unexpectedly ended after four seasons, leaving fans shocked and the cast to move on with their separate lives. “Stone Harbor Bound” by Madeleine Mysko
After the death of her longtime partner, Camille Pickett travels to Stone Harbor to settle the future of the small bungalow Bridget left behind. What begins as a practical trip soon becomes something much deeper when Camille forms connections with two young people facing challenges of their own. As their lives intertwine, she begins to reconsider what defines a family and discovers that love can persist even through hardship, addiction, illness, and grief. Set against the tranquil backdrop of the Jersey Shore, “Stone Harbor Bound” is an emotional story about healing, human connection, and finding the strength to move forward while honoring the past.
“Avalon” by Gina Miani
Following the death of her husband, Mariah returns to Avalon to rescue her family’s aging Victorian home. Her homecoming forces her to revisit painful memories from 1978, uncover long-buried secrets, and reconnect with Trey, the teenage sweetheart she never truly forgot. As the past and present begin to intertwine, Mariah must decide whether she can let go of old heartbreak and embrace a second chance at love. Rich with coastal atmosphere and reflective storytelling, it’s a thoughtful read about how time may change us, but the places and people that shape our lives are never completely left behind.
“My Summer Bucket List” by Kimberly Brighton
After a painful divorce and a career setback, divorce attorney Kacie Layne is ready for a fresh start. She heads to a shore house in Sea Isle City with one goal in mind: to focus on herself. “Wildwood Exit” by Joel E. Turner
When John McGinty, known simply as Ginty, agrees to manage a Wildwood restaurant for his friend Lou Scolletta, he expects to deal with inventory, staff, and the everyday headaches of running a business. Instead, he finds himself pulled into the Scolletta family’s increasingly dangerous affairs. “The Stone Harbor Cottage: Shoreline Secrets” by Coral Harper
