Days Gone By
Today we’ll go back more than half a century, 53 years, to the end of summer in 1972. Sept. 8-10 was the closing weekend for the season at Jack’s Place. Cathedral was headlining that weekend. Those were the early days of Jack’s Place after Jack Erkerdt took over what had been Gallagher’s Pub, and the Black Eagle before that. Jack would turn the nightclub, which included the Gemini Dining Room in 1972, into one of the first-of-its-kind sports bars. Yes, Jack was ahead of his time when it came to marketing and programming his nightspot at 36th and Ocean Drive. Lots of great memories created at Jack’s.
