Fall has arrived, bringing crisp air, pumpkin-spice delights, cozy layers, and back-to-school energy. We explored the island to find the ultimate fall must-haves for everyone on your list!
Beach Reads
It’s amazing how quickly summer slips away; those long, lazy beach days always feel too short. Between endless to-do lists and busy schedules, I only managed to get through half of the books I’d hoped to read. But that just means I have the perfect stack waiting for me this fall and I can’t wait to dive in.
Our Wild, Dynamic Beaches: Mother Nature Always Wins, and We Just Have to Deal with It
The beaches are moving!
This fundamental truth is how I was introduced to the dynamics of beaches as an undergraduate student majoring in geology at Boston University. Prior to that, my experience with beaches was vastly different and largely tied to summer fun and mischief on the shores of the Long Island Sound.
Times Talk
Evan Hallowell and Michael Wiel were sworn in as members of the Avalon Police Department on July 23.
Hallowell, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., holds a degree in criminology from West Virginia University. He previously served as a member of the Ocean City and Stone Harbor police departments. He resides in Avalon.
Financially Speaking: Summer Reflections and Career Directions
Endless Summer has so many great connotations. To me, it is a state of mind. Perhaps you think of it as a lifestyle of perpetual warmth and sunshine, popularized by the 1974 movie “Endless Summer.”
Smilestones
If you were seeking a taste of Broadway as well as a glimpse into Avalon's history this summer, then you should have been at the Avalon Elementary School in July for the Avalon Players' production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's “Cinderella,” the enchanted version.
Days Gone By
Today we’ll go back more than half a century, 53 years, to the end of summer in 1972. Sept. 8-10 was the closing weekend for the season at Jack’s Place. Cathedral was headlining that weekend.

Outdoor Entertaining: It’s Chili in September
And so it goes … another summer season in the books. We’ve certainly enjoyed our share of sunny, steamy days, and it’s been glorious. But I’ll say what I say every year at this time: September is simply the best. If you haven’t yet had the chance to enjoy a September beach day, do it this year. It really feels different.
13 Crowd-Pleasing Wines
Every season, a few wines rise above the rest, bottles that overperform, offer unexpected charm, or simply become staples in the rotation. After months of tasting, selecting, and pouring for others, these 13 stood out as consistent crowd-pleasers and personal favorites. If you haven’t tried them yet, now’s the time.
Beach Safety
A day at the beach can be the perfect endless summer escape with sunshine, salty air, and the soothing rhythm of the waves. But before you roll out your towel and dive into the water, it’s important to remember that the beach can pose real risks if you’re not prepared.
Endless Summer, Timeless Health: 7 Ways to Keep That Glow All Year
Does summer really have to end?
Labor Day arrives, and suddenly the beaches quiet down, the days shorten, and school buses replace surfboards.
But here’s the truth: Summer isn’t just a season. It’s a state of health and vitality.
The Art of Transition: Embracing Change and Keeping Your Peace
As another memorable summer comes to a close, we face the reality that a change of seasons is once again upon us, and with it perhaps a change in routine, schedules, or daily activities. You may be saying goodbye to your beach sunsets and pulling out your cardigans, or packing up your sand pails and filling your school bags.
