Nancy, Marge, Florie, and Tilly weren’t shy stepping up to the microphone back in the summer of 1954 at this dockside party in Stone Harbor.

Stone Harbor’s Jenn Maher has quite a hobby on her hands. Maher, an attorney and mother of two, has a goal of completing a full marathon, 26.2 miles … in all seven continents and 50 states.

His planned final day on the job has moved around a bit, but the current target date is Wednesday, May 1. That’s when Greg White, a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier in the southern end of Avalon, will call it a career.

You’ve obviously heard the tune “I Found My Love in Avalon,” the 1920 classic written and often performed by Al Jolson. Perhaps that’s where Red Sox right-hander Jack Kramer got the inspiration for his quote in 1949 when he told The Boston Globe, “I found my arm in Avalon – Avalon, New Jersey.”

Now that spring is here, it’s time to consider what activities the kids will want to be involved with in the summer. Seven Mile Beach offers a wide variety of camps. From the beaches to the sports field, they can stay entertained and busy all season.

If you are someone who has the ability to regularly beat the stock market or the S&P 500 – I’m not talking about beating the market for a quarter or even one year, but for decades – you may stop reading this article and go one to the next one because you need no one’s financial advice.
