The Avalon Lions Club hosted its annual Golf Classic on June 11 at the Union League National Golf Club in Cape May Court House. The event raised more than $65,000 for several different Cape May County charities including the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children.

The Avalon Library’s Summer Spotlight Series continues to shine brightly this summer with two more renowned authors coming to Avalon on the heels of blockbuster appearances by Taylor Jenkins Reid and David Grann in July.
What inspired you to teach environmental education? The answer to this question is as varied as the people answering it.
For me, the answer is simple. I teach environmental education for a chance to observe the spark – the spark you see on a person’s face when you know they have made a genuine connection to their environment

Two superstar authors will touch down in Avalon when historical nonfiction author David Grann appears at Community Hall on July 21 and uber-popular novelist Taylor Jenkins Reid appears at Surfside Park on July 28. While their bestsellers are in different genres, both authors are considered masters of their craft, beloved by readers, and coveted by the film and TV industry.
Whimsical, yet complex. Buoyant, yet deep. Colorful, yet spare. The paintings of renowned American artist Craig Alan hover in the exquisite balance of these contradictions and will be on brilliant display at Ocean Galleries’ exclusive Craig Alan Exhibition over the July 4th weekend in Stone Harbor.
For the past several years, The Wetlands Institute (TWI), working with our partners at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have been pioneering innovative approaches to building coastal resilience using dredged sediments derived from maintenance dredging of New Jersey’s Intracoastal Waterway.

Of the many incredible resources that this island offers, our libraries are two of the rarest gems. Not simply beautiful buildings where you can pick up a beach read (though they’re good for that, too!), the Avalon and Stone Harbor libraries provide fun, interactive, engaging, and entertaining programs for the whole family … all summer long. Read on for some of the highlights of the Summer of 2025.
Frank Vaul, Ken Biddick, and Bob Ross won’t sweat ballot-box results June 10. All are assured a place in the next Stone Harbor Council because the three candidates seek three positions in the primary elections. All will be officially confirmed for office in November.
With smooth edges and brilliant color, glass sculptures have the unique ability to freeze time, to capture color in motion, to mold power into fluidity.
The first and only job application Mr. Aldo Palmieri ever filled out is what kick-started his lifelong teaching career at Avalon Middle School. Palmieri, or “Mr. P” as he’s more commonly known, is an English and history teacher of 42 years at Avalon who announced that he will be retiring at the end of this school year.
They bark. They hang out in large flocks on short orange legs by the water in the summer heat. And when they lift and swirl as a flock, they are a spectacle that can take your breath away.

Avalon rides a wave of administrative success as Council President Mari Coskey, Councilman Jamie McDermott and Councilman Greg “Chet” Johnson prepare to assume new four-year posts. They run unopposed in the May 13 election. Council Vice President Barbara Juzaitis and Councilman Sam Wierman round out the five-member group.
Learn how to surf or hone your surf skills with Avalon Surf Camp! Campers will surf with instructors who are ISA (International Surf Association) certified. Ocean, beach, and surfing safety instruction will be provided to students at all levels.
